The Lord’s Day

10.

We believe and confess that the Lord’s Day is a Christian ordinance that must be kept continually, spent in worship and spiritual reflection, both in public and at home. Unlike the old Mosaic covenant, when the seventh day was observed, Christians, as members of the New Covenant, must observe the first day of the week [Sunday], which was sanctified by God through the resurrection of His Son from the dead and by the sending of the Holy Spirit.

The early Christians kept it as a day of worship. On this day, we should rest from worldly labors and physical distractions, engaging instead in acts of mercy and those things which are absolutely necessary.

We do not observe holidays dedicated to saints.

Mark 16:9 “Now when he rose early on the first day of the week…”

Luke 24:1-6 “But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb... and they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus... two men stood by them in dazzling apparel... and said to them... ‘He is not here, but has risen.’”

John 20:1 “Now on the first day of the week…”

Acts 2:1-4 “When the day of Pentecost [Sunday] arrived, they were all together in one place... And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit...”

Revelation 1:10 “I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day…”

Acts 20:7 “On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread...”

1 Corinthians 16:2 “On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside...”

Psalm 118:24 “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

Leviticus 23:15-16 “You shall count seven full weeks from the day after the Sabbath... You shall count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath. Then you shall present a grain offering of new grain to the Lord.”
